Cross stitch fabric and size calculator
Find the stitched area and the fabric to cut, with a border on every side.
Your pattern
Count is squares per inch on Aida, or threads per inch on evenweave. Over 2 uses two fabric threads per stitch.
Choose room for your finishing method. The border is added to every side.
Your measurements
- Finished stitching
- 7.14 × 10.00 in
- Fabric with border
- 11.14 × 14.00 in

Compare fabric counts
The chart keeps the same number of stitches. A higher effective count makes the finished picture smaller.
| Count / Over | Finished (in) |
|---|---|
| 14 / 1 | 7.14 × 10.00 in |
| 16 / 1 | 6.25 × 8.75 in |
| 18 / 1 | 5.56 × 7.78 in |
| 28 / 2 | 7.14 × 10.00 in |
| 32 / 2 | 6.25 × 8.75 in |
How the calculation works
Finished inches = stitches × Over ÷ count. Fabric inches = finished inches + twice the border. Centimeters use the exact 2.54 conversion; only the displayed result is rounded.
For 100 × 140 stitches on 14 count, Over 1 and a 2-inch border, the finished area is 7.14 × 10.00 inches and the fabric is 11.14 × 14.00 inches.
This measures the chart rectangle, including empty cells. It does not estimate thread consumption, stitching time or fabric shrinkage.
